Vanderzwan Named Acting Principal of Scribner Road Elementary School
After 17 years of service to Penfield Central School District, Scott Hirschler will retire as principal of Scribner Road Elementary School at the end of this school year.
During his tenure at Scribner Road, Hirschler has fostered a positive and inclusive school environment, provided mentorship to aspiring leaders and teachers, developed school actions plans to further the success of staff and students, and established strong partnerships with the PTA, local organizations, and families.
To foster a smooth transition, during its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 13, the Penfield Board of Education approved Hirschler’s retirement and appointed Sheonaid Vanderzwan as acting principal of Scribner. Hirschler will serve as a principal on special assignment until his official retirement on June 30. In this role Hirschler will provide mentorship to Vanderzwan and support District projects and initiatives. Will Kaufman will be transferring to Scribner to serve in the assistant principal role.
Vanderzwan joined Scribner in 2023 as assistant principal, facilitating a broad variety of professional development, overseeing special education services in her building, and serving as a member of the District Instructional Leadership Team, Equity Champions, and interview committees.
Prior to her time at Scribner, she held teaching and administrative roles in Batavia, RCSD, Pittsford, Gananda, and Colorado Springs School District 11. She has more than 20 years of teaching and coaching experience, in both general and special education.
