Board of Education Swears in New Members, Elects New Officers

Susan Kavanagh and Stacy Lonardo were sworn in as the newest members of the Penfield Central School District Board of Education during the annual organizational meeting on Tuesday, July 14.
Kavanagh serves as the Senior Director of Client Experience for Global Legal Technology Corporation, where she also serves as the Core Executive Leader of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team. A graduate of St. John Fisher University, she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science.
Lonardo is a 38-year veteran teacher and currently teaches first grade at Spencerport Central Schools. She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Michigan State University and a master’s in education from SUNY Brockport.
Kavanagh and Lonardo will both serve four-year terms.
At the meeting, the Board also elected Patrick Moriarty as President and Susan Gilbert-Collins as Vice President for the 2026-27 school year.
Moriarty was elected to the Board in 2024. A retired educator, Mr. Moriarty served as a secondary science teacher for 16 years and was a school building principal/assistant principal for 17 years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from SUNY Geneseo, a master’s degree in education from University of Rochester, and a CAS in educational administration from SUNY Brockport.
Gilbert-Collins was elected to the Board in 2025. She taught ESL at the college/adult level for seven years and now contracts with a standardized testing company. She is an author and has published a novel and numerous short stories. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Oberlin College and a master’s degree in English as a Second Language from the University of Minnesota.
The Board is rounded out by members Christin Harley, Emily Roberts, and Scott C. Wilson.
