PHS Clubs

Student Clubs & Activities

A member of the Robotics team works on the robot under the guidance of mentor and coaches.Whether its tinkering with electronics, practicing a foreign language in a casual setting, or designing jewelry from scratch, Penfield High School boasts more than 60 clubs and activities where students can explore their interests. Often led by faculy and staff members at PHS, students can build leadership skills, deepend their understanding of a topic, or engage in a hobby among friends.

In addition to the clubs listed below, students can try out for several theater productions, including the falll play, spring musical, and annual One Act performance. Through the Athletics Department, Penfield students can engage in competitive sports at the JV and Varsity level. Penfield also hosts an active National Honor Society, which students are tapped to join based on their demonstration of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. 

Students can also participate in Class Council and should speak with their Class Advisors about the many opportunities they offer:

AMBASSADORS
Mrs. Cannon & Mrs. Williams
A diverse group of students who are role models among their peers. They contribute to the positive climate of our school by assisting in a variety of services in the high school.

ART CLUB
Mrs. Cox
Students will meet once a week to create art in a positive environment. Discussions of art techniques and subjects surrounding kindness and culture are incorporated.

BEST BUDDIES
Mrs. Ditko & Mrs. Grichen
Students with intellectual & developmental disabilities and non-disabled high school students socialize by spending time doing crafts, playing games and other activities. Make a new friend!

BLACK STUDENT UNION
Ms. Fletcher
Black and Brown students will enjoy building community together. They will learn aboutways to address micro– and macro-aggressions, racism, and advocate for students of color’s needs.

BOOK CLUB
Ms. Becevic
Discuss and share appreciation or criticism of literature in a variety of genres. Titles are selected by club members.

CERAMICS CLUB
Mr. Pelletier
Students become familiar with the vocabulary and processes of ceramics. Students create pottery and sculptural art while developing wheel skills.

CHEMISTRY CLUB
Mr. Baker
Students will enjoy Chemistry and see demonstrations. Activities will depend on student interest and safety. All are welcome!

CHESS CLUB-INTERSCHOLASTIC CHESS TEAM
Mr. Schembri
Students enjoy learning or playing chess at all levels. The Chess team competes once a month against other schools with a playoff at the end of the year.

DANCE TEAM

Tryouts will be announced to participate in the Dance Team. The team will perform at school sporting events and within the community

D.E.C.A. (Distributive Education Clubs of America)

DECA is an international association of high school students interested in management, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality, and marketing. DECA prepares students for careers and education in business.

DRAMA CLUB
Attend meetings to oversee all outside aspects of drama productions. Process all financial paperwork, maintain showcases, organize committees, and other “managerial duties” for drama productions.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB
Mr. Dragomani
Environmental Club meets twice per month to address environmental concerns such as paper & plastic recycling at the high school.

Esports CLUB
Mr. Smith & Mr. Fichera
Compete in epic video games like Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and Valorant in the Esports Club! We play in the High School Esports League which has a fall and spring schedule with 6 regular season games each along with playoffs. No equipment needed.

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)

Athletes meet in a safe place to share a common love for Christ and athletics! We meet Wednesday mornings at 6:50 am in G8.

FIRST ROBOTICS TEAM

Students enjoy promoting STEAM in their community by building and competing at FIRST Robotics Competitions. Students will learn engineering skills from professional engineers as well as develop business skills such as leadership, public speaking, marketing, graphic design, and much more!

FRENCH CLUB

Learn about French culture, language, art, history and holidays. Sample French Cuisine, listen to French music and other activities.

FUTURE TEACHERS CLUB

Club advisors will work closely with St. John Fisher to help students explore the teaching profession.

GERMAN CLUB

Participate in activities that incorporate the languages and cultures of German speaking countries. Connect with other students, be introduced or further your knowledge of German culture and social activities.

GIRL UP PHS CLUB

JEWELRY CLUB

Open to students who have taken
Jewelry & Metals, Advanced Jewelry & Metals, Foundations in 3D Design, or a Jewelry/Metals unit. Students can investigate metals in an independent way, to express personal ideas through the medium and to further advance their skills, techniques and craft.

KEY CLUB

Key Club is sponsored by Kiwanis. It is a student-led organization which provides members with opportunities to provide service and develop leadership by identifying community needs.

Students will work in a safe and inviting space to design and build technical projects.

An improvisation group that meets once a week. Students learn skills that help them to become actors and practice those skills through improvisation.

MASTERMINDS

An academic team that meets regularly to practice for competitions against other schools in Western New York.

MATH LEAGUE

Students meet twice a month from October through March to practice for competitions with other school districts in the area.

MOCK TRIAL

To participate in Mock Trial tournaments; students meet to practice and learn law and trial skills.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Mrs. Rodman
An amazing way for students to become aware and knowledgeable of world events in a fun and unique way. Students debate real issues and work in a student run environment to seek out solutions. Students will attend regional conferences.

MOSAIC CLUB

To promote awareness of and appreciation for, racial diversity within PHS. We will create opportunities for education and discussion about racial diversities, and work on making our school welcoming to everyone.

MUSIC CLUB

Students work with the Music Department to plan and organize the performances and fundraising activities Of the Music Program.

Students will work together with local veteran and military organizations to send care packages and letters to men and women serving overseas.

PHOENIX CREATIVE ARTS JOURNAL

Students will create a journal twice a year that celebrates the creative talents of students and staff.

PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB

Students will participate and learn about photography, discuss styles, trends, and techniques. Students will be able to create and share their own work with their peers.

Students work together to brainstorm, draft, edit and publish a school newspaper periodically.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

A positive environment where students work together to spread optimism through the community by volunteering, fundraising, and spreading awareness.

SADD
Mrs. Finlayson & Mrs. Verstraete
Students work to raise awareness and increase prevention education for our school community on the topics of; underage drinking, drug use, risky and impaired driving, violence and other destructive decisions.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD CLUB
Mr. Sweeney
Students prepare and compete in events at the New York State Regional Science Olympiad that are either knowledge-based, hands-on, or engineering based. Students compete in events that fall under three main categories: Science Concepts and Knowledge, Science Processes and Thinking Skills, and Science Application and Technology.

SNOW SPORTS CLUB

Students will travel to Bristol Mountain on a chartered bus during January and February. Pick up your registration form in the Counseling Office.

SOURCES OF STRENGTH

Join a youth suicide prevention project which is designed to harness the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, bullying, and substance abuse.

SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY

Students will participate in conversations and practice in Spanish. The goal is to have student be recognized by AATSP for their excellence in Spanish. We will have an awards ceremony in October. Students will do philanthropic work and connect with both local and global communities.

STRATEGY GAMES
Mr. Schneider
Students enjoy the challenge of playing strategic games against their peers in an open and inviting environment. Bring your own game or play one that we have. No experience needed and ALL are welcome.

STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Mrs. O’Hare
Membership is open to all students. This committee represents the student pulse of the building and advocates on behalf of the student body as a whole. It also leads the annual “Socktober” clothing drive to collect socks for the homeless and families in crisis.

UPTOWN EXPRESS

Students will perform live music at the Prism Concert, as well as Night of Low Commotion, and the Spring Choral concert.

WELLNESS CLUB
Mrs. Finlayson & Mrs. Verstraete
To provide students an opportunity to improve personal wellness through social interactions and stress management education. We will also help members with nutrition understanding while they work together to create and cook healthier versions of the food they enjoy eating!

YEARBOOK

Students prep and work on creating the 2025-2026 yearbook for sale to the student body.

YOGA CLUB
Mrs. Fichera
Join yoga club to explore the many emotional and physical benefits of a yoga practice! We will also incorporate breathing practices and meditation in order to become more mindful members of our ever changing world. No experience is necessary.
